This winter’s significant snow fall is great for snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoe enthusiasts and other winter activities, but it can and does cause a significant delay to firefighting operations – especially as fresh snow turns to ice around fire hydrants.
The Prior Lake Fire Department responded to the following fire and medical calls from Jan. 31 to Feb. 13:
Sunday, Jan. 31
Firefighters responded to a snowmobile on fire on a trail in the 16800 block of Highway 13. The fire is believed to have started as the result of a mechanical malfunction, which caused about $1,000 in damage.
Monday, Feb. 1

Tuesday, Feb. 2
Firefighters responded to a carbon monoxide alarm in the 14300 block of Pike Lake Trail. It was a false alarm.
Wednesday, Feb. 3
Firefighters responded to a medical call in the 4700 block of Pleasant Street.

Firefighters responded to a snowmobile on fire on a trail in the 16800 block of Highway 13. The fire is believed to have started as the result of a mechanical malfunction, which caused about $1,000 in damage.
Firefighters carried a cross-country skier who suffered a possible broken ankle about 2.5 miles during a rescue at Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve in Credit River Township on Jan. 27.
Firefighters were called to the trailhead of the park, in the 16000 block of Murphy Lake Road, at about 9:51 a.m. after the skier placed the 911 call from his cell phone, Fire Chief Doug Hartman said.
