Marie Grieg

Marie Grieg, 46, of Savage, passed away at her home on Monday, Nov. 17, 2008.

Marie was born June 8, 1962 in Minneapolis to parents Charles and Phyllis (Schmitt) Schwegman. She married Thomas Grieg on Oct. 31, 1980 in St. Paul. They were blessed with four children.

She will be loved and forever missed by her husband, Tom; children, Jonathan Greig of Burnsville, Melissa Grieg, Daniel Greig, and Joseph Greig, all of Savage; grandchildren, Moriaha, Haley and Amelia; mother, Phyllis Berry of Forest Lake; brothers, Daniel (Mary) Schwegman of Kentucky, Michael Schwegman of Forest Lake. Marie was preceded in death by her father, Charles Schwegman.

Visitation was Friday, Nov. 21, from 9:30-11 a.m. at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, Prior Lake. The Celebration of Life service followed at 11 a.m.

Hazel C. (Mrs. John S.) Evans

Hazel C. Evans, 66, of Faribault, died on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008 at her daughter’s home in Prior Lake.Hazel EvansHazel Evans

Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Faribault, with the Rev. Allan Nelson officiating. Interment at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Visitation was held in the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, on Tuesday, Nov. 18, from 3-7 p.m. and also in the church for one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.

Hazel Clarine, the daughter of Ernest and Mable Handeland, was born on Jan. 20, 1942 in Austin. She attended country school and graduated from Austin High School. She attended Wartburg and Waldorf colleges and later received her master’s degree in Math. She taught school in Iowa and later at Faribault Junior High School for 30 years. She married John S. Evans on Dec. 12, 1971 and he preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 2003. She was very active in volunteering in her community and church.

She is survived by her daughter, Melissa (and Bryan) Smith of Prior Lake; two grandchildren, Julia Smith of Fargo, N.D. and Devin Smith of Prior Lake; her mother, Mable Handeland of Austin; four siblings, Ione (and Duane Linsey) Johnson of Bemidji, Elaine (and Dave) Macy of Mission Viejo, Calif., Cynthia (and the Rev. Bruce) Hannem of Nisswa and Gordon (and Donna) Handeland of Austin; nieces; nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and her father, Ernest Handeland.

Rita J. Norling

Rita Norling, 68, of Prior Lake, passed away at her home on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008. Rita NorlingRita Norling

Rita was born March 31, 1940 at New Rockford, N.D. Her parents were William and Esther (Thompson) Dailey. She married Roger Norling on May 18, 1963 at Minneapolis.

Rita is survived by husband, Roger, of Prior Lake; sons, Paul D. (Liisa) Norling of Savage, John Norling of Burnsville, David (Rachel) Norling of Rosemount; four very special grandsons, Josh, Jacob, Jonah and William and one beautiful granddaughter Becca Jean; brothers, Allan “Jack” (Jackie) Dailey of Plymouth, Roger (Jackie) Dailey of Broken Arrow, Okla.; sisters, Elizabeth (John) Plum of Littleton, Colo., Delores Davis of Maple Grove; sister-in laws, Lorraine Dailey of Minot, N.D., Lorene Dailey of Minnetonka.

Rita is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Larry, Daniel, William and David Dailey; nephews, Sean and Robin Dailey, Jon and Michael Plum.

She attended school in New Rockford and Minot, N.D. She came to Minneapolis after school to work. She worked as a data entry operator at Sears & Roebucks and International Multifoods. Rita worked and managed Norling Liquor in Prior Lake for nine years. She was a member of St. Michael’s Church and a very active member of the Prior Lake Lions Club for over 30 years.

Visitation was Wednesday, Nov. 19, from 4-8 p.m. at Ballard–Sunder Funeral Home in Prior Lake.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Nov. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Michael in Prior Lake with Father Tom Sieg presiding. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. Pallbearers included Mike Davis, Dan Dailey, Gordon Affield, Ted Kranz, Roger Dailey and Jack Dailey. Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Knowles, Vern Thompson, ****** Welshon, Bob Larson, Alvin Rostberg and Jason Dailey. Memorials are preferred to the Prior Lake Lions Club, The Lupus Foundation, MN Chapter of the Kidney Foundation.

Solveig Elizabeth Konrad

Solveig Konrad, 64, a resident of rural Parkers Prairie and formerly of Prior Lake, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008 at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.Solveig KonradSolveig Konrad

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie with the Rev. Kenneth Bowman officiating. Music will be provided by organist Julie Lindgren and vocalist Dedra Zwieg. Visitation will take place from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Pallbearers will be her family and friends.

Solveig Elizabeth was born Jan. 12, 1944 to Erich F. and Elizabeth L. (Stahlkoph) Orlikowski in Stettin, Germany. She immigrated to the United States with her family at the age of 12 years, settling in Chicago, Ill. She attended public school and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1962. Following her education she attended Cosmetology School in Chicago where she worked as a beautician. She was united in marriage to Richard Konrad on Jan. 4, 1964 at Bethany United Church of Christ in Chicago. Following their marriage they lived in Great Falls, Mont. where she worked as a beautician on the Malmstrom Air Force Base. In 1967 they moved to Faribault, Minn. In 1969 they moved to Prior Lake where she raised her family and later worked as a brazier for Rosemont Engineering for 15 years. She and her husband moved to the Parkers Prairie area in 2000, owning and operating Solveig’s Leid Resort on Block Lake. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

Solveig is survived by husband, Richard; son, Peter (fiancé, Sheila Martin) of rural Parkers Prairie; daughter, Lisa (Steve) Notch of Rosemont, Minn.; brother, Gregory (Lois) Orlikowski of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; six grandchildren, Anthony, Clayton, Emily, Alex, Anna and Nevaeh. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Robert John Mertz

He was born May 8, 1921 in Shakopee to parents Harry and Isabelle (Theim) Mertz. He married Bettie Peffer on Nov. 5, 1943 in St. Cloud, Minn.

Bob was an Alderman for the city of Shakopee for five years and served on the Shakopee High School School Board for 12 years. He was a Past Commander of the American Legion, Post 2; a member of the V.F.W. and the Knights of Columbus (for 50 plus years!). Bob kept the financial records for the K of C for many years. Bob was an active member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church for decades and was named Volunteer of the Year in 1993. He will be loved and forever missed by his wife, Bettie; children, Dave (Mary) Mertz of Casper, Wyo., Bobbie (John) Arvold of Eden Prairie, Don (Mary Ann) Mertz of Prior Lake, Laurie (Gary) Blanchard of Bloomington, Cyndy Mertz of Eden Prairie; grandchildren, Gina (Patrick) Carpenter, Brandy Mertz, Michael (Maddy) Arvold, Katie (CJ) Becker, Jannie (Ben) Thompson, Christian (Allison) Mertz, Amy Anderson, Kellie Blanchard, Jeff Blanchard, Chrissy (Kyle) Hartnett; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary (Rod) Simon of Sioux Falls, S.D., Ruth (******) Klotz of Danbury, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Church of St. Mark or St. John’s University.

Visitation is Friday, Nov. 21, from 4-8 p.m. at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 833 South Marschall Road, Shakopee, and also 9-10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial is Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Church of St. Mark, Shakopee, with Father Timothy Norris presiding. His 10 grandchildren are pallbearers. Interment at Shakopee Catholic Cemetery, Shakopee. Military honors are provided by the Shakopee Honor Guard.
