At its Monday, July 7 meeting, the Prior Lake City Council will consider a request for an ordinance requiring liquor stores to be at least a half mile apart.

The request came from Kevin Bresnahan, owner of Dakota Liquors, who said he’s concerned about competition from MGM Liquor Warehouse, which is eyeing a spot in the former PDQ strip mall on Commerce Avenue.

MGM has applied for an off-sale liquor license, but the council won’t consider that request until its Aug. 4 meeting, City Manager Frank Boyles said this week.

If the council approves a distance restriction for liquor stores, it would impact the MGM license request. The strip mall is 340 feet away from Bresnahan’s store, at the southwest corner of County Road 42 and Highway 13.
